Some people love flying, but for others it can be very stressful. You don’t always find comfort, space and entertainment onboard, so here are a few hacks to help you have a very pleasant flight.
All you need is SeatGuru
On this website, you will find aircraft seat map and reviews to help you choose the best seat in the plane. It also gives information about in-flight amenities and airline baggage policy.
Bring Healthy Snacks
As you probably know, food in the plane is very expensive. Trust me, you don’t want to spend $10 on that teeny tiny turkey sandwich. Instead, pack a ziplock bag with different kind of nuts and dried fruits. It will be very useful in case you can’t leave the plane due to delays. Besides, you can share it with the cute guy sitting on 14C !
Drink Plenty of Water
You need to drink a lot of water for several reasons. First, your body gets dehydrated faster in high altitude and you will experience physiological changes. The humidity in the aircraft cabin is kept between 5% and 10%, so you will need a lot of clear fluid to compensate. Drinking water is also the best way to fight jet lag. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks as they intensify the dehydration.
Keep Your Shoes On
Low pressure in the cabin will make your feet all swollen and it will be uncomfortable to put your shoes back on. If you can’t stand keeping your shoes on during the flight, you can also buy a pair of compression stockings. It will improve your blood flow. You’re not gonna look very sexy with those on, but oh well !
Bring a Warm Sweater
I suggest you to wear a short sleeve t-shirt and to have a sweater or a jacket in your carry-on. You never know how you will feel in the cabin, sometimes it will be very hot, sometimes very cold. Better be prepared for both options. Also, try to dress comfortably. Below are some outfit ideas. Click on the circle to see the full size picture.
Don’t forget the gums
Chewing gum during take-off and landing will help you equalise the pressure in your ears. It’s also good to have some in case cute guy in 14C decides to talk to you !
Walk, Move & Stretch
It is especially important for international or long flights. Walk from one end of the plane to the other, several times. Stretch your joints, arms and your legs. Don’t stay in the same position for a long time. Try to get up and walk every 30 minutes.
